Is there dangerous wildlife?
In the areas where are tent lodges are situated is wildlife present. However, the campgrounds are all busy placesa dn often surrounded by fences, so not the regular place for wildlife to wander around. You will see a lot of squirrels, birds and you might be visited by small wildlife like rangoons and skunks. Bears, coyotes and the kind are there, but you will very seldom see them.

How save are the campgrounds?
America’s Tent Lodges has selected those campgrounds that comply to our requirements. Clean and working restrooms, a pool, a shop, a playground and security where needed.
Can I ride Route66?
Route66 as such does no longer exist, the routenumber is officially no longer in use.
On many places this legendary road from the twenties through the sixties had to give way to interstate highways (mainly the I40). On the original Route66 one could drive from Chicago to Santa Monica (Los Angeles). You still can drive an estimated 85% of the original route with a normal car. You need a special map and description to find your way. You can start collecting these information on www.national66.org
One hour from the campgrounds in Williams, in Seligman, you have the opportunity to drive a part of the original Route66. This trip, between Seligman and Kingman, is the longest and most original part of Route66 still existing today.
Can I visit Yellowstone NP from the tent lodges?
Yellowstone NP is too far from our current locations of tent lodges to visit. We advise not to include Yellowstone Np in a tour through the southwest, yet to design a specific tour through the northern part of the western states to visit Yellowstone. Our other label America’s Exclusive has no less than two great tours that include Yellowstone. (site is in Dutch)

Is it true you can drive through the red light in the US?
Yes, that’s correct.
however, there are some restrictions. You can turn right if the traffic light is red. Before doing so you must come to a full and complete stop (the same a for a stop sign), you may not hinder the other traffic when making the turn. Finally you must be able to drive on the right lane after the turn. So, if the right lanes is blocked round the corner because a car/truck is parked there, you are not allowed to drive through the red light.
Of course the sign “no turn at red” overrules everything.
My kids want to drive the rental car as well, is that possible?
Yes, it is.If you want to drive the rental car with multiple drivers, we are happy to advise you about the best option.
If your kids are between 21 and 25 years old and want to drive the car, they need a so-called underaged insurance. Truth is, this is rather expensive. Please ask us about the costs, since they differ per situation.
What about all these stopsigns?
Stop signs are abundend in the US, they work the same as in Europe.
If there is a sign underneath the stop sign with “4 way stop” or “all way stop”, then the rules are different. this is the US equivalent of our roundabouts. You approach the intersection slowly and make a complete stop before the halt line. While doing so, you closely watch the rest of the traffic approaching the intersection. He who stops first, drives first; the famous first-come first-served principle. Being second in line, you drive to the halt line when the car before you is gone, your stopping determines your place in line. You can not just follow the car before you!
Americans are always in line, is that true?
That is right, and not only that, the first-come first served principle is leading. If there is more than one counter to serve the customers (for example in a post office), the people will form one line and the first in line will go to the first counter that comes available. If you would make a second line, like we are used to in the Netherlands, people will be offended and you have a change that you will not be served at all by the personnel.
How much is the entrance to the National Parks?
The entrance to a single park differs, but mostly is between $20 and $25 per vehicle.
We advise you to buy a “America the Beautiful – National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass” at the entrance of the first National Park you enter. This pass is $80 and one vehicle with all passengers can enter any National Park, National Monument , National Recreation Area, National Battlefield, etc for a whole year.
