The campground
Flying Flags Resort is beautifully situated in wine country, 30 miles north of Santa Barbara and only 5 minutes from the Danish town of Solvang. Several state beaches are within easy reach, as are the Sierra Madre Mountains, which offer great opportunities for outdoor activities.
Up till today this area is relatively unknown to the masses, though this has nothing to do with the beauty of it. Meet wildlife and walk through dense forests and pass beautiful waterfalls. Buellton is and excellent place to stay if you’re planning to visit (the bizarre) Hearst Castle. This castle is located near highway 1. A beautiful coastal road worth driving.
The surrounding
Driving northbound on the 101 from Los Angeles, the landscape rapidly changes from urban to countryside. Wide open areas vary with small villages and towns like Malibu, Ventura and the most famous: Santa Barbara, which is a great place for dining, shopping and relaxation. This city is a top location for the ‘happy-few’ from Los Angeles and Hollywood, where they can escape city life and the heat of the dessert.
Santa Barbara is also the most northern point where palm trees grow. Finally, the amazing beach that Santa Barbara has, is great for beach volleyball.
