Cortez
The campground
Cortez KOA is situated just outside Cortez and offers a view of the mountains of Mesa Verde National Park. You will feel right at home here. The campground is neat, clean, and has plenty of room. The swimming pool is open till early September, when the temperatures start to drop, but there’s always basketball, volleyball and horse shoes to pass the time.
The surrounding area
The main attraction in this area is Mesa Verde NP, which flat topped ridge rises near the four corner point of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah, about 15 minutes away from the campground. The Million Dollar Hwy between Ouray and Silverton is worth the daytrip, and the route will also take you through Durango, a quaint historic Rocky Mountain town. Visit Monument Valley in Utah, the setting of several of John Wayne’s most famous westerns, Canyonlands NP, Canyon de Chelly NM, or go out and enjoy a hike or a bike trip in the green outdoors.
